elegantly moulded - Artist Statement

Elegantly Moulded is set in a historical Melbourne building , with a vibrant and storied past. This esteemed edifice has witnessed myriad transformations, oscillating between debutantes and debauchery since its construction in 1857. Today the building embraces a diverse community of unconventional and artistic souls. 

One of these residents, Virginia, is an accomplished visual director, stylist, and curator who has worked alongside industry legends such as John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood. Virginia has devoted her life to creative pursuits, the art of visual communication and surrounded herself with the objects of great beauty she has collected along the way. 

However, iniquity has also taken up residence behind the grand facade. A fourteen year battle between residents and a corrupt Owner's Corporation, has seen luxurious homes fading into water damaged disrepair. Virginia's once meticulously curated abode, now houses chaos, shame, and dilapidation, with her most cherished possessions shrouded in plastic or consumed by black mould. Ceilings sag and crumble, and buckets stand as sentinels, capturing the relentless deluge of water that floods her apartment. 

The interplay between beauty and desolation that defines Virginia's reality forms the essence of this series.
